Rice Water Hair Rinse for Smooth, Shiny Hair
Looking for a simple DIY addition to your hair-care routine? Rice water has been traditionally used as a hair rinse and may help hair feel smoother, softer and more manageable.

• 2 cups water
• A clean bowl or saucepan
• Strainer
• Clean spray bottle

Method 2 — Boiling
Wash the rice.
Boil it with 2 cups of water for about 10 minutes.
Allow it to cool completely.
Strain and store the rice water in a clean bottle.
How to Use
After shampooing, apply rice water from the roots to the lengths.
Gently massage your scalp and hair.
Leave it on for around 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
You can try it 1–2 times a week and see how your hair responds.
Potential Benefits
May improve shine
Can make hair feel smoother
May help with manageability and detangling
The starch in rice water can temporarily coat the hair surface and reduce friction.
Important: Rice water is a traditional hair-care remedy, but strong scientific evidence that it directly stimulates hair growth is still limited.
If your hair feels dry, rough or coated after using it, reduce the frequency or stop using it. And if you’re experiencing significant or persistent hair loss, it’s better to consult a dermatologist rather than relying only on DIY remedies.
